Transparency in Healthcare: Machakos Health Officials Dispel Misinformation Through Facility Tour

In a proactive move to address misconceptions surrounding healthcare services, Dr. Daniel Yumbya, Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Health, led a comprehensive facility tour at Machakos Level 5 Hospital. The initiative aimed to dispel claims made by some leaders that essential health services were not operational.

Commencing the tour in the pharmacy, Dr. Yumbya showcased the well-stocked drug store, highlighting supplies worth a substantial Sh 66 million. The team then proceeded to the laundry department, equipped with cutting-edge machines, including state-of-the-art cloth dryers, emphasizing the hospital's commitment to modern facilities.

The tour included a visit to the recently rehabilitated and expanded morgue. Journalists present were astonished at the contradiction to claims by certain leaders that the morgue had been closed and was not accepting bodies. The inspection provided clear evidence of the facility's operational status, dispelling misinformation.

Addressing the media in a press briefing following the tour, Dr. Yumbya urged politicians to refrain from politicizing health issues, emphasizing the impact on the well-being of Machakos residents. The focus, he stressed, should be on collaborative efforts to enhance healthcare services in the region.

Accompanying Dr. Yumbya were other County Executive Members (CECM), including Hon. Onesmus Kuyu for finance, Hon. Faith Mutanu for water, and Dr. Consolata Mutisya for education. Also in attendance were Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Nzioka Wangondi, Minority Leader Hon. Judas Ndawa, Assembly Deputy Speaker Hon. Stephen Muthuka, and Chairperson of the Health Committee Hon. Vincent Mutie. The collective presence of these leaders underscored the importance of transparent communication and collaboration in addressing healthcare concerns in Machakos County.
