The regrets

Looking at her husband inside the gutter, Sofia shook her head in regrets. She had asked herself so many times how did she managed to marry such a man and gave birth to four beautiful children for him without her knowing that he was a drunkard.

She flashed back to the time she was young, Sofia was a beautiful girl that always dream of getting married to a rich man.

Her beauty was like that of the goddess, every other young girl in her village desire to be as beautiful as Sofia, there was a time she was crown ‘‘the most beautiful girl’’ in her village back then.

When she walks, her endowed backside moves uncontrollably and this attract handsome men to her.

Her parents have always told her to focus on her studies but the advice of her parents will not get to her, she always sneaked out of her class to meet John her boyfriend.

Having boyfriends wasn’t a problem to Sofia unlike her bestie Grace that finds it difficult to have a man.

Things changed drastically for Sofia when she became pregnant with her first child Ebuka at age 14 when she was in JS2. Her father became furious when he discovered that Sofia was pregnant and chased her out of his house.

After 11years of living together as husband and wife, Sofia looked like a 45years old woman, her beauty had faded away. She can't afford to live expensive life as she dreamt of while growing up. She had to fry akara at the junction of their street inorder for her and children to eat.

Her husband "John" would go to beer parlour after work and drink to stupor most times. Sometimes, he would managed to trace his way back home but other times he would fall into the gutter.

It was 10pm, when papa Doris (one of her neighbors) told her that her husband was inside the gutter close their home. She immediately went to place and she saw her husband sleeping peacefully inside the gutter as if he was on his bed.

Sofia looked at him regretfully and said to herself "I wish I took the advice of my parents and focus on education, I wouldn't have ended up with this man"

The End.
